Our House Communion Service
(Mid-week, currently monthly)
I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ‘This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
A midweek Communion Service has been part of Caversham Park Church since the beginning. Sunday services have been held in Caversham Park School for fifty-three years, but this is not available for us on weekdays, so a midweek Communion was held at members’ houses.
In the early days of the village, there were often a dozen adults, usually mums, who brought their children. They played upstairs, while the adults worshipped and came down for a blessing. Coffee and squash were served afterwards, while adults exchanged news.
Now, we are mainly retired folks, with a regular house communion congregation of six to eight. But there is plenty room for more. The service is held on the first Wednesday of every month in the home of one of the members. See the website for venues.
The service used is taken from the pattern of the United Reformed Church.
